MYSTERY BEHIND DREAMS
Why do we dream?
This is one of the most interesting question in the world of science. The exact explanation is still unknown but there are many theories that I want to share.
The question, "Why do we dream?'' is that much complex that in the field of science, there is a separate branch for studying dreams which is known as "ONEIROLOGY". It is a tough thing to understand dream for a common person as well as for science. In any experiment, whenever it asked to people that what did they see in their dreams? Then at every time their answer is unreliable, infact in average, any person forget the 90% of his dream in between 10 minutes of waking up. So, when you wake up you see a glance and you try to remember about your dream.
When you sleep, then you have only two stages:
1. RAPID EYE MOVEMENT (REM)
2.NON-RAPID EYE MOVEMENT (NON-REM)
But, between these two stages, REM stage is more special. When you are in REM stage, then at the time you are sleeping, your eyes do movement in left to right or vice versa inside. Actually you can see this movement. If we do computer recording of the brain of a sleeping person who is in REM stage, then we can see bizarre electrical activity of the brain. The researchers found out that the electrical activity of a person who is watching dreams in the REM stage, is as similar to that of the awake person. It means that, in REM stage, your brain uses substantial amount of energy. At the time of sleeping, some chemicals like HISTAMINE, SEROTONIN etc. won't come out inside the brain, for which, you can experience the different types of emotions, in spite of any activity of the body. But, in case of some people, the chemicals are unbalanced for which, their body moves when dreaming viz. sleepwalking. Sometimes, when a person is in REM stage, the eyes of the person unclenched, but there is no movement of the body. The person feels like he is awake, but his brain feels that he is in REM stage, it is so call SLEEP PARALYSIS. At the very instant after awaking we can't move our body, we can move it after 8-10 seconds. The conclusion is that, we can dream only when we are in REM stage.
Now, comes the question, WHY DO WE DREAM? And the answer is,at the day whatever we do, is stored in our brain as memory. Our unconscious brain, scans and organizes the memory at the time of sleeping for strengthening the connection between we and our memory so that we can use that memory more nicely. And at the same time, our unconscious brain erases all the junk memories from our brain so that it can't jam our brain. At that time our CONSCIOUS BRAIN can't understand what is happening and at the moment when the memories are organizing, we see random images, then our brain tries to find out something meaningful from the images. For this reason, we think whatever we have dreamt is making sense or it is obvious. But, it is also possible that whatever you dreamt is meaningless.
According to modern science, dreams are good for us because at that time, our unconscious brain tries to make a strong connection among our memories and it is totally random. So, it is just waste of time to try to find out the meaning of dream. So, this was the whole science behind dreams.
